Rating

On-demand Delivery is in high demand nowadays. There are many Food delivery options in the market, confused which one to join? Postmates vs DoorDash is our today’s concern to discuss on. Food delivery isn’t now restricted to Pizza, Burger or Subway delivery, but you can choose the restaurant and cuisine of your choice to order your favourite food online. In this topic, I am going to discuss the pros and cons of two delivery services keeping in view the perspective of both customers and Drivers. Read the article till the end to get the best App to order food and to join the best company.

I have divided the confusion into five following factors, pricing, availability, customer service, and many other factors too.

Postmates vs DoorDash

1) Pricing

When it comes to Pricing, both the Drivers and Customers try to choose the best one for them. Cost is considered to be the most important factor when we buy or deliver something.

From Drivers perspective:

For drivers to Earn money, Location Matters! The Area with a high demand for timely delivery will have more orders always.

In DoorDash pricing Scheme, drivers have to pay $1,  get some tips too and some pay-bost is generated.  The pay boost may vary depends on how complex the delivery was! Other than the pay driver gets, the company makes a tipping facility easy by which a driver can earn more. Drivers reported that their earning varies between $8- $15 per hour.

In Postmates, the pricing scheme is different.  Payment earned is calculated using a mileage rate and This includes the drive time between pickup and drops off. The time you need to go to pickup Location doesn’t generate any cash. When the demand for service is high, blitz pricing proves to be beneficial. Blitz pricing boost drivers money by 1.25X or 1.75X.

From Customers Perspective:

It’s very important to consider delivery charges for customers as delivery isn’t free in both the apps. Also, some additional fees are added when orders are in high demand eg Lunchtime.

DoorDash pricing Scheme includes Delivery fees(that you pay to the driver), Food price+tax(total cost of your order excluding delivery), Service Fees(price restaurant takes to provide the service) and Optional Tip(you may give to the driver)

Postmates pricing scheme is higher includes all above plus Blitz pricing(surge pricing). But it gives subscribe option to opt for free delivery and zero blitz pricing for daily delivery. Though both the apps are the same when ricing is considered but Postmates may be proved to be better if you are a daily customer.

2) App Interface

When you are using an app interface, it’s really necessary that the interface must be user-friendly. A messy Interface would lead to frustration and thus loss of a highly paid customer.

From Drivers perspective:

Both the apps have easy to use interface that is easy for drivers to take orders and do deliveries easily. The difference between Postmates vs DoorDash interface is built-in-maps. DoorDash doesn’t provide built-in maps and hence drivers have to use some other apps for the same which is really frustrating and time-consuming. Postmates, on the other hand, provide a proper Navigation that makes the trips easy for drivers.

From Customers Perspective:

Both the App Interface is Customer-friendly and fun-filled. Still, there is a flaw! Only after signup, you are able to explore the restaurants, that is another frustrating thing here. In both the apps,  you get a real-time tracker to check the status of delivery.

3) Availability

When it comes to online food delivery, the Service is of no use if it is not serving in your area.

When it comes to Availability, Postmates seems to win the race. Postmates is more established and popular than DoorDash.  Postmates are available in 189 cities in the US while DoorDash is available in 50 cities combines of US and Canada.

Postmates is Available in the following States in the US

  • Arizona
  • California
  • Colorado
  • Florida
  • Georgia
  • Illinois
  • Indiana
  • Kentucky
  • Louisiana
  • Maryland
  • Massachusetts
  • Minnesota
  • Missouri
  • Nevada
  • New Jersey
  • New York
  • North Carolina
  • Ohio
  • Oklahoma
  • Oregon
  • Pennsylvania
  • Tennessee
  • Texas
  • Virginia
  • Washington
  • Wisconsin

4) Customer Service

Customer Service is a quiet Important factor during the work and you get to know its importance when you stuck with a problem. Lack of Customer Service leads to Difficulty, Disappointment, and Delay. These 3-D’s needs to be taken care of and must not lead to delivery issues.

From Drivers perspective:

DoorDash provides the drivers with a long list of Frequently Asked Questions and Answers. Whenever a driver stuck with a problem, he goes through the list and finds a solution for it. There is no option for Real-time calling and customer service for drivers. This is really bad!

Postmates whereas provides Real-time customer calling service to help out the drivers for the problems they stuck with.

From Customers Perspective:

Customer Service is a must key for the delivery operations to be successful. Neither company has a customer support phone number available. Both have email support available, though it’s not straightforward to get to it. You have to go through a series of forms on the company’s website in order to initiate your email support ticket; you can’t directly email someone. This is again Disappointing!

So, both the delivery Service has its own pros and cons. According to my perspective, Postmates wins here for both customers and Drivers. But everyone is different, so their choice. Choose wisely!
