Discover the new PlayStation 5 controller in pictures! DUALSENSE!
We have reached a milestone in PlayStation 5, when they started sending the final version of their new controller to developers so they could integrate its unique features into. their game. But first, they want everyone in the PlayStation community to have a first look at the DualSense wireless controller and feel the new sensations it will bring when interacting with the virtual world of PS5 games.
DualSense’s features, combined with PS5’s Tempest 3D Audio Tech, will give players an unprecedented level of immersion.
What’s new of PlayStation 5 controller DualSense?
When PS4 was launched in 2013, the DualShock 4 wireless controller was praised by players and developers who named it the best PlayStation controller to date and praised the pioneering features. It’s like the SHARE button. This leads us to the following question: how to recover from such success?
After careful consideration, the producer decided to keep most of what our players love in DualShock 4, while adding new features and improving its design. In their discussions with developers, they have concluded that many games have never really tapped the feeling of touch, as well as the audio size, in the game. They saw in PS5 and its new controller a great opportunity to innovate, giving game creators the ability to reinforce this sense of immersion.
This is why they have applied haptic feedback technology, which adds a variety of rich senses, such as feeling a little heavy when driving in mud. They’ve also incorporated adaptive triggers into DualSense’s L2 and R2 keys, so you can really feel the tension in your actions, just like when you bend to shoot an arrow.
Therefore, they faced one of the most interesting challenges: designing a new controller inspired by the current generation, while thinking about the new features they want to add. For example, for adaptive triggers, Sony had to think about the best way to integrate components into hardware while maintaining great ergonomics. That is why their design team works closely with their hardware engineers to place triggers and sensors.
On this basis, designers were able to create sketches of the controller’s final appearance, with the challenge of making it look more compact than it really is. Finally, they changed the angle of the manual triggers and also made subtle changes to the grip. In addition, they have been thinking a lot about how to provide good battery life for DualSense, while minimizing the weight of the controller as we add new features.
As for the buttons, you’ll notice the absence of the SHARE key as it already exists on DualShock 4. Don’t worry, it’s gone. In fact, they have leveraged the success of the SHARE button, a pioneer in this area, to give you a new function: CREATE button. With CREATE, they are once again the first to offer players new ways to create epic game content to share with everyone, or just for fun. They will take a closer look at this feature as we get closer to launching.
DualSense also features a built-in microphone, allowing players to chat instantly with friends without having to plug in headphones. But of course, if you plan on chatting longer, it’s best to have a handy headset.
How about DualSense’s color?
Now let’s talk about color.
Traditionally, Sony’s basic controller has been offered in a unique color. As you can see, they’ve taken a completely different direction, this time choosing a two-tone design. They have also changed the position of the light bar to highlight it. On DualShock 4, it is located at the top of the controller, while now it is located on either side of the touchpad, to make it more presentable.
Finally, in recent years, they’ve imagined many concepts and created hundreds of models before choosing this final design. DualSense has been tested by a series of players with different sized hands, in order to provide the level of comfort they want, while maintaining excellent ergonomics.
With DualSense, the manufacturer’s goal is to give players a sense of immersion in the game world as soon as the box is opened. They want the player to feel like the controller is an extension of their body, to the point of forgetting that it’s in their hands!
We are excited to share the ultimate interface of the DualSense controller with fans! Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO Jim Ryan sent a message from the community:
“The DualSense software marks a radical change from our previous controller and illustrates our desire to go further with the PlayStation 5. The new controller, combined with many of the innovative features of the PS5, will bring the to a whole new dimension to games so that’s true of the PlayStation spirit when pushing the boundaries of the game, today and tomorrow I want to thank the entire PlayStation community for sharing the adventure. This interesting save with us as we approach the launch of PS5, scheduled for Christmas 2020. We will share more information about the PlayStation 5 in the coming months and its final design will be revealed. “
